Endurance (Photo credit: Kathryn Denman)
These are challenging times. Everyone seems stressed. It’s almost like being busy is the new black. I remember this in London when I lived there. It was completely uncool to suggest someone would be free on Saturday night even a week before. I mean really! It often seems we value busyness above all else Achievement more than kindness We are often judged on what we have acquired rather than the lives we have touched (in a good way)
Life falls apart for everyone at some point. Mine certainly has, and more than once. The last time sent me off on a whole new trajectory which has been the greatest gift and blessing.
Apart from the fact that no one gets out alive. We also have to contend with that everyone we love will leave us. More than ever we need resilience, self mastery, just to cope with the day to day and for those days when we can’t make sense of any of it. Have faith in yourself, and for when you might be faithless Build it as they say and it will come. This meditation will do just that:-)
Meditation for Sensitivity and Endurance
Posture Sit with your legs crossed in easy pose. Centre yourself with a few deep breaths. Tune in with the Adi Mantra. Then bring your hands to rest in Gyan mudra. Index finger (Jupiter) and thumb are touching.
Eye Focus Close your eyes and roll them up to look out through through your third eye. The point above the bridge of your nose between your eyebrows.
Breath Go inward, within your heart center. Breathe long and deep and allow breath to come naturally. Meditate deeply. Now begin to see the movies you play in your mind. Use your brow as your screen. Watch your stories, your words, your thoughts, your dramas. Nothing in your body should move. Just observe. Try not to go with the story or stories. Just notice them. Continue for 7 minutes.
Change to Breath of Fire for 2 minutes. Breathing in and out with a rapid breath through your nose. Pulsing your navel. Breath in, expand your abdomen. Breathe out, contract it.
Now form an “o” with the mouth and breathe very long and deep through it for 2 minutes.
Finish Inhale deeply, hold, and tighten your muscles. Exhale. Inhale again and hold this precious breath. Slowly relax.
Effects Compare your stamina from when you started and your stamina now. Notice your life is nothing but stamina. Your knowledge, body, mind, and spirit are of no use if you cannot master your stamina, your endurance. People who don’t have endurance cannot break their bad habits.
God – the generator, organiser and destroyer – the cycle of life – is infinite. You are infinite—but you deal with God through limited endurance. Endure your emotions, commotions and feelings and and you can master it. Slowly and gradually this will give you self-mastery, and that is life.
Total time Total time 11 minutes
Practice Do this every day for 40 days. Try and do it at the same time every day.
Does your mind control you or do you control your mind. Master your mind, make it your servant. As Einstein reminds us
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift.
One to have in your tool box:-)
